Gunner's 30gal fun house

Dear Chicago Reefers,

I wanted to formally introduce myself and my tank to you all. My name is Jordan Gunn, I am a graduate student in pharmacognosy (a mix of ethnobotany, biology, and phytochemistry) here in Chicago. I would say I really got into reefing about a year ago when I asked my father to get me, for my birthday, everything I would need to get going a 3g aquarium I had as a kid (seahorses is what I kept back then). After learning that this 3g is borderline not suitable for saltwater life in general, what I ended up getting was 30g hqi biocube present. After a few months of cycling I have slowly been upgrading this package and gathering suitable inhabitants for a peaceful reef aquarium. Here's my current setup:

Equipment
Biocube 30gal
hqi (metal halides) with custom fixture
led moonlights
aquatop heater
oldtown sr-series back-chamber skimmer
reef octopus br-110 biopellet reactor
hydor powerhead
venturi wavemaker
neptune apex controller

Livestock
Blue damsel
Male anthias
Blue chromis school
Scooter blenny
Diamond goby
Unidentified suckerfish
Pom pom crabs
Reef crab
Emerald crab
Conch
A few coral frags (including a mohawk zoa from Tinman!)

So there it is, that's my tank. I hope to meet some of you here in the area. I'd love to have you see my setup in person and would love to see yours as well! I'll be on the threads asking advice, PIFing what I can, and hope to make some trades along the way as well. At any rate, love the forum, and see you guys in there!

Nice tank man! Might be a little overstocked though. What halide bulb are you running? I have a couple frags for you free if you want them. I'm in the South Loop.

Thanks Ted! Yeah I think I hit the limit stock-wise for sure, that anthias/chromis combo put me over the top (man that's a fun combo though, they work pretty well together and the movement is amazing). Not sure about the bulb off the top of my head, I'd have to check. Frags sounds awesome, coral is what I'm missing here, I'll pm you and maybe we can meet up soon. Good to meet you!

Welcome. Make sure some food hits the bottom for that skinny diamond goby. My diamond eats pellets, which works in my favor. GL.

Thanks Mike, thanks Jon! Good call on the pellets Jon. I once heard mention of sinking pellets, but didn't know that the goby would eat/need them. Thanks, and will do!

Haha, now TangPolice is a name I remember seeing around here! I guess how can you forget a name like that? Good to meet you sir.
