Herbie Overflow drains

Hi all,

I'm about to cement my plumbing together but I need to ask one quick question.

Can I plumb my drains (from the tanks bulkheads to the sump) vertically or do I need to add a couple 45 degree angles to add an offset to it?

I've heard both, that the "drains shouldn't be vertical" and that its "ok if they're vertical." One drain has a gate valve and the other is an unobstructed overflow.

What say you?

For my herbie all three of the drains have atleast 2 90s. It's out of necessity to get them into the sump, but the runs are less than 5 feet each in length. The sump is in the stand below the tank. It works well without any issues, so I can confirm is they don't have to be straight.

I order to avoid 90s in my herbie, I went with spaflex. Also, I believe 2 45s is better than 2 90s if you can make it work. I think the general philosophy on Herbie drains to make them as straight as possible.
