Huge Worm

I recently upgraded my tank and while I was taking out the sand bed I noticed this huge worm. I grabbed some tweezers and slowly begin pulling and it just kept coming and coming. When it was all said and done I had pulled out a worm that was over 20 inches in length. It resembled an earthworm put it had what looked like mini legs down each side.

Does anyone know what it is?

No really I have no idea, it's pretty nasty looking, butt-ugly I mean, not nasty evil. Someone on here is bound to know!

It kinda freaked me out so I tossed it. I had one area in my tank that was full of empty hermit and snail shells and I could never figure out why. I wonder if this thing was eating em?
