So after building a new DIY stand for for my 90 and it been done i came across a problem.... I realized my sump will be next to my HVAC intake I have read that the moisture from the tanks and or "salt" in the air can coorode an A/C furnace..... problem is I have no where to put it now my plans are on hold.....Anyone have knowledge of this ill include pics

the new stand was made bigger then the tank and will cover the intake. I noticed part of the intake screen has rusted ?

I'm not a HVAC guy but here's my experience. Your ductwork will rust over time regardless if you have a reef or not, humidity gets at it too. The salty air just may speed up the process and it will be even faster if it is low quality metal as mine has shown. My 125 has been down for about 4 years now and rust is starting to appear on my ducts right by my furnace which was not there before. I feel that as long as you keep up with regular filter maintenance and keep the fan running regularly, the salty air will blend with the air around it and be less "salty".

I know nothing of HVAC units, but that isn't something I would be concerned with. If it were behind the tank and actively pulling the air across the sump, then I would be worried. If salt evaporated that well with the water, I would be topping off with salt water, not fresh. Those screens, grated covers always rust. I put my last tank right in front of my return, but made duct work to go under everything.

ok i see what you mean . Nice! yeah problem with mine is its a decent size and its the only intake for the unit and my new stand will be right infront of it althought the sump wont sit directly to the left

You can put it me house :dog-laugh:

will the entire stand cover the intake? meaning is 50% is visible and 50% behind the new stand, or some other combination.
Your ac unit picture is that the air filter?
will you be able to access to change the air filter?

Wrasse it wont cover the intake but be next to it and thats the air filter.

My fish room is the same room which houses my furnace. Been that way for 3+ years and i see no problems anywhere w/ my ducts or furnace rusting.

Yes it will cover the intake but the back of the stand is open and im planning on placing it a little bit off the wall

So it sounds like most of us have it near that vent and none of us have a issue so i wouldnt worry to much . If your worried find another spot for it or like i said put a filter behind the grate. U can replace the grate down the road no issues its the stuff betond the grate that's important

I read that some do get rust in the duct work itself. But had inappropriate or no dehumidifier. Because salt does not evaporate but does settle on the tank rim and stand but not away into the house.
So they were saying that its not the salt. But the humidity in the room thats causing the rust.
With a good dehumidifier or air exchange like a fan to take the air out etc was the solution

On a 90 you are probably gonna be ok especially if you have led lights... Salt vapor is very corrosive.

I had about 900 gallons in the basement and 4 years later had to replace parts in furnace...all my vents in my house were rusting even on the 2nd floor.

Dehumidifiers did nothing.. Had to install an air exchanger to really fix the problem which was not a cheap fix

I was evaporating a lot of water had 10 400 radiums running 8-9 hours a day, newer led's with no heat would have helped.
