I need tips for a Predator Tank equipment

We're talking about a fish that live decades, not just a few years.

Yes, we are. Plenty of people have kept them successfully, just like sea apples, and other things that some other aquarists have not been able kept successfully. Speaking in absolutes in terms of compatibility and habitability of someones tank never helps anyone. 50 years ago someone would have said you CANNOT keep an acro in that 10" cube on your desk. If no one tried it we still wouldn't be able to, but alas, we can!

With decades of pufferkeepers on my site advising against this long term, I have to agree with them.

Where are these pufferkeepers? Can you link to their long term findings? I would like to read them. Either way I do not believe in giving recommendations on absolutes. Every fish is different even if they are the same genus/species/or even from the same clutch.

In fact here a mild species of trigger (i.e bluejaw) is recommended for a puffer on your forum.

Bob Fenner also regularly recommends puffers for tanks with an existing trigger (including clown triggers) on WetWebMedia.

Not saying it WILL work, just saying I have seen personally and on the internet people who have kept triggers and puffers long term with no ill effects. Again, every fish is different, there are very few absolutes in this hobby (like don't pour bleach in your aquarium).

I never said he couldn't keep any of the fish he had on his list with the puffer. Just not all of them & not more aggressive. larger fish.

I think it all comes down to...."Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has them, some good, some really stink" ~ Unknown Author

Sorry, I have always wanted to play that card!...LoL!!

Actually, this isn't just a matter of my opinion. I run the #1 puffer forum in the world & have the most knowledgeable pufferkeepers gathered there with practical, long-term experience. Many are scientists & lecturers in the field.

In response to your original Q, good flow is a must, so you can keep the detritus in the water column to be removed by the skimmer. Predator fish are pigs! A healthy refugium will be helpful too.

Kind of easy to call yourself #1 when you are the only one out there. Who are all of these esteemed scientists and lecturers in the scientific field of pufferkeeping? I would love to attend one of their lectures.

Kelly Jedlicki is one of our Mentors, in addition to many WetWebMedia Crew members (which would include myself for 4 years). Kelly will be happy to see your face at the next reef convention here in Chgo. I have often been asked to speak at these too.

Ted, not sure if it's intentional, but you're sounding a little confrontational here...

Yes, she will be speaking there. I HATE public speaking but have been asked to speak at CMAS meetings & Bob Fenner said he would place me anywhere I wished to speak.

Great, I look forward to hearing her speak.

Eric, not intentional, always genuinely interested to hear experts in their field speak. I LOVE TED talks (no pun intended).

I'm going to be setting up a tank with Invert eating fishes. so clean up crew will be at a minimum, or probably non existant, except for worms hiding within rocks and sand. I just want to get tips on what I need to successfully run a predator tank. I'm sure a powerful skimmer is a must. I'm not a big fan of UV filter, but is that a must with no clean up crew? Any other equipment needed?

So would anyone care to get this thread back on topic now and help the OP with his questions about "equipment" he should be looking into for a predator tank?
