ID please..

I bought this piece of sps on friday but havntt seen any polyp extension. It was a darker purple with a lil green when i purchased in it.. now the frag has turned a pinkish color with purple and a lil green underneath. Is this normal. it could be my lighting as well. i think i have more white light than the pet store, although they did have LEDs +1
 
SPS's often change color, depending on the lighting/water quality. They will often be different colors with different tanks. Just make sure you have really good water quality with SPS's.
 
I havnt had any ammonia or nitrates in a while. My ph is right at 7.8. I was just curious if it would servive. I have great lighting and flow so we will see. I was curious if I should see actual extension. It's hard to see in pick but it seems to look open in some for plus I can the nodes moving with the current.

I just check salinity.. at 1.023. Is the addiquet or should I push it higher. Boy its tought to judge the topoff on this tank.

1.023 should be adequate, it's drastic swings in salinity that do more harm than just running a stable lower number. Doing smaller, more often DI top offs is better than dumping a gallon or two in all at once.
 
I top off once a day but I usually guess at like 5 to 10 oz. My salinity was 1.025 last Monday. I think I'm adding too much water, but now I'm aware of it.

Acropora can change colors from tank to tank. I am not sure where you have your Acro placed in your tank but, typically, you will want to start them off on the bottom on your tank and move them up (or down) every week to so they can adjust to your water parameters. You can help color them back up by moving them to less intense light or light of a different spectrum. You should be able to tell if your acro is doing okay by monitoring both the color and how the polyps respond to light and flow. Regarding the polyp extension... do they come out at night? Some acro polyps (typically those that are not maricultured/tank raised) will only extend polyps during the night.
 
Based on the pictures its very hard to id.
By id are you looking for a common name like strawberry shortcake? If so it likely does not have one.
Exact scientific species names are hard for even people decades into the hobby.
 
I agree, there are probably hundreds of different acros, so as long as you know it's an acro, you can place it accordingly...btw, how's those softies doing? :)
 
Looking great! I don't know if its an acro. Those palys look great under my lighting. Thanks again. That book is very informative as well.

I'm glad they're doing well for you...and that book will answer many questions you may have in the future...I've read it about 6x's now. :)
 
That is an Acropora. What kind isn't super important, just know they like super clean water, higher light and decent random flow. I get my acros to polyp out by feeding them once a day a coral food, ie coral frenzy, reef chili etc. I also dose vodka and MB7 and run a SRO3000 skimmer to keep my water super clean after feeding the tank. Just some things to consider hope it helps. :)
