If you ever thought someone could never charge $300 for a magnetic glass cleaner...

In the manual:

Remove all types of animals that attach themselves to the aquarium’s glass surfaces. These types of animals such as star fish, snails, algae eating fishes, etc., can not be used with the RoboSnail. These types of animals may cause magnetic decoupling of the cleaner, damaging the main unit.

It also says:

Restore your inner glass surface to a spotless condition by cleaning the surface of all algae, build up, or mineral deposits. (Before installing the unit)

It says it can be used on rimless tanks but also says OUTSIDE GLASS MUST BE DRY!

And best of all you have to mount the charging unit on the front of your aquarium.

Comedy Gold!!

I wonder what they were smoking to think people would actually buy this thing?

How does an idea like that even make it to production? Who wants a big ugly, (probably loud) magnet, crawling around their tank all day?

it learns the shape of the front of the glass and stays a preset distance off the bottom so it never touches the substrate. I see this product as a leaping off point for some amazing tech. If I had a big honking tank I would have one of these on it all day. Most manuals have really limiting disclaimers and we push our products past intended use all the time. Besides, those giant mag cleaners are too far off in price and I dont' really want to drag one around all the time.

Why is it hard to think the glass should be cleaned before installing? It runs from there on out and keeps it clean afterwards.

I knew that. I just found it funny that you need to clean the glass before you can put a glass cleaner on it.

I do that now if I haven't cleaned in awhile, I don't want tube works and other things to stick in my magnet cleaner and scratch my tank. Just a preventive measure to keep that dumb *** who ruins the front of their tank from trying to sue.

I just see too many potential problems from this device to make it worthwhile.

The charger takes up real estate on the front of your tank. While a bigger tank size could mitigate this you need to have 0.40" thin glass or smaller so that could limit how big of a tank you can get.

Rimless tanks can be problematic with magnetic cleaners when you clean near the top because they tend to push water over the side which is a big problem if you have to keep the outside dry. And what happens if there is an overflow?

While it should stay away from the substrate there is always a chance of something getting in between the magnet and the glass which could easily scratch the heck out of your tank while you aren't looking.

Yeah I see this being a great product for larger tanks that need cleaning, but it is a way to just be lazy I do hate cleaning my glass from time to time, but then again I wouldn't depend on some machine that might not do the job right the first time when you want the tank clean the way you want it to be.

it only does the front pane. no corners yet, but they are working on that. .4glass is prety limiting though. It moves so slow that the upwelling would never be a problem next to the rimless top. You also set the timer so that it runs at night or when you arent around or on demand.

I bought a roomba a while back and was pretty skeptical of its usefulness. The thing is amazing at day to day touch up and picking up wayward cheerios that escape my kids. We still have to run the full vacuum, but not as often. I see this as a similar increase in convenience. Hopefully the next versions will kepp getting smaller and more functional. I envision a day when we all have litle maintainence robots all around us taking care of grunt work in out tanks and daily lives. Innovation never looks good at first.

Lol, I see where Herbie is coming from, as an idea, this is cool... But it seems to still be before its time - at least this rendition is. Loud, ugly, and you have to take off anything that climbs on the glass... I could see it being good for a nice big aggressive fish-only where any snails / inverts would be eaten.... But I'd like to see this idea say, 5 years from now, to see where they've taken it. Very funny though in its current incarnation!
