I'm moving again! Crap!

As if the stress of moving isn't enough, i'm sure most of us know that owning a reef tank only makes it a million times worse.

Some of you may remember when I moved my standard 55 gallon last year. I took advantage of the situation and upgraded to the 60 cube I have running now. I made some mistakes during the move and lost a couple fish and corals.

Well I'm moving again, and I figured I'd start a thread to document it, this way I can have a lessons learned for future moves. Please feel free to chime in with any suggestions/tips at any time.

This time I have more time to move, so I'm going to try and do it without a single casualty. My plan is to setup an interim tank that will be capable of holding all the livestock for an extended period of time. This way I'll be able to breakdown, set back up, and allow the tank to re-stabilize before putting the livestock back in.

Enough babbling, picture time!

I used an interim tank when I moved and it made things much easier. A bunch of 5G buckets will be a big help too. How far of a move is it going to be?

Yeah I have quite a few buckets, and plastic water tight totes. I'll be moving about 15 minutes away, straight shot down la grange road.

Since I'll be re-aquascaping the tank I figured it's a perfect time to pick up some tonga branch. Picked up 3 really nice pieces from aquapros last week and spent a some time tangling them together to make 1 really nice looking center piece. Huge thanks to Mike and Dave for helping me pick these out! Can't wait to get these in the tank.

I moved last month and still have yet to bring my tank over. Its a 5ft 120 gallon. I moved out of my moms house so I'm not in a big rush. I talked to dave at AP and I guess he moves tanks and he gave me a pretty decent quote to move it. I'll probably end up going with him since a few casualties could cost the same amount.

But it is an apartment so I'll probably be moving again in the next year or 2 so i'll be following your thread to see how it goes.

I'm been slowly adding corals to the frag tank over the past week, the rest of it and all the fish/crabs/snails went in today. I got all of my live rock circulating in a tote with a heater.

Put the new rock in the empty tank as well, figured i'd let any phosphates leach out of it now before I dump the water. Plus I was itching to start some scaping this tonga branch.

I plan to replace a good 50% of the sand with fresh caribsea aragonite.

Picked up a 2nd mp10wES for the 60 cube as well, and another koralia 240 for the frag tank. Alternating the 240's with a smartwave.

Not yet, I closed today, hooked up my rodi at the house and started filtering water. Tomorrow I plan on breaking down the tank and moving it, hopefully bring over the livestock next weekend, or maybe even throughout the week.

I love your tank, looks really good- Glad you didn't lose anything. I'm going to be up grading my tank soon- new tanks comes tomorrow (very excited) but its 100 gallons bigger then my tank now so I am trying to get ideas from everyone on making the change over smooth. This is my 1st move (just tanks, not moving houses :) thanks for letting me creep at your progress

Thank you!

Of course, that's what forums are for, creepin! Moving from one tank to another inside the same place shouldn't be too rough, any questions feel free to ask!
