I'm thinking

hey everyone. my name is Danny and like the title says, I'm thinking of going to the dark side. right now I have a 120 gal. Amazon biotope. I had 8 wild discus, 20 lemon tetras, and 6 cories. everything was great for 3 years. discus went from 3" to 7". then problems hit. I began losing one fish about a month apart. no signs of anything. they just got dark and stopped eating. I am down to 2 and added 10 silver angels. anyway, I had a 24 gal nano reef some years ago and loved it. now I want to use my tank for a fowlr. I'm retired and need to hold the cost down. my two cannisters are of no use so I was thinking of using 75 lbs. of dry rock and 50 lbs. of live rock as a filter. I will go sumpless for at least a while but will add a good hang on skimmer. I can use my lights for now and will need two powerheads. this will still cost me about 1,000.00. do you think this is ok? I have some medical issues and the 75% weekly wc's are getting old, which is why I don't want more discus'. it's going to be hard to break this tank down. I am pretty proud of it. here it was before the die off.

Hello and welcome to the site...glad to have you aboard. That's a beautiful discus tank!

thanks. thing is, discus are a bit boring. if it were'nt for the tetras there would be no movement in the tank. got to put some pics on e-bay and try to sell everything but the tank.

U can usually get a whole set up for way less then a 1000$ just hit craigslist or keep eye out here

Do it do it do it! Lol . Like madjoe said , for $1000 you can get a WHOLE 75 gallon setup with sump , lights , skimmer, powerheads and if your patient enough with livestock . Go on Craigslist
