JBJ 28 gallon question

I just set up a JBJ 28 without the hood. I currently have the innovative Marine ghost desktop skimmer in the middle chamber with no filter media. If I plan to have live sand and live rock in the tank, do I need media in the middle chamber or would I be better of taking the skimmer out and using the filter basket? Any input or feedback is appreciated, thanks!

I would say, no. Not sure what you have in the other chambers, but make sure you put some filter floss in one. I built a rack for mine in the first chamber using some egg crate.
