Thanks guys. There was no way I could ever chose a fish to sell from the ones I had, but really needed to drop bioload. This little guy ate the more than anyone. Learned my lesson, no more high probability jumpers.

Dang fish. Sheesh.
 
Tracking it here too in case I forget what thread it's in and adding some additional info. In the ATS scrubber thread for this tank (LINK) I started dosing iron last week to see if iron is the limiting factor in growing macro algae.

I did considerable amount of reading before starting iron dosing. There are iron supplements on the market but they contain other additives as well. I'm not interested in dosing anything other than iron. The hach meter I use to test is accurate down to .01ppm total FE but that is still far too high to be accurate in a reef tank. Typical ocean values = 0.000006 ppm, per Randy.

Using the Fergon iron tablets seems the safest way to go and it's easy too. Dissolve a tablet in rodi and pour off the liquid leaving the pill's sediment. The main take away from the articles is dosing iron is thought to be safe without negative affects. A dosing amount and frequency is not all too important as the tank contains so very little iron, any addition will increase the levels significantly.

Randy is using 1 tablet per 100ml of rodi, dosing 1-5ml per week for 200 gal. I want to confidently prove if iron is the limiting factor in growing macro algae. I'm tripling the supplement and dosing 5ml per week.

3 tablets per 100ml and dosed weekly on Saturday.

My initial tests show still .01ppm total FE after dosing the 5ml twice in the first week. I'll continue to measure iron monthly as I've been doing for more than a year.

I pulled all the cheato I had out of the refug and replaced it with the ATS. Cheato is too messy and gets everywhere in the system. Hopefully HA will stay put in the ATS.
 
Just happen to catch a glimpse of something in the sump return chamber last night. I couldn't get a photo with the camera phone, so this is a note to help me remember to get a pic next time I have the SLR out. There is a black tubastraea sun coral baby growing in there :woohoo:

This is the third black tubastraea sprout in the tank, pretty cool stuff. One is less than an inch from the parent colony and this is the second one growing in the sump.

this is pretty awesome ! a reason why this is my fav tank ive seen to date . multiple diff corals that not only grow but spread to other random parts of your tank . gotta mean your doing something good congrats dude
 
I've gotten the question a couple times. The casters under my tanks are great IMO, but a HUGE warning!!! if you want to use casters, make sure the stand is seriously overbuilt to make sure you get ZERO deflection when the tank is full. All floors have uneven for many reasons, deflection in the stand can pop your tank seams.
