Not fake, but one is a misbar... Don't get me wrong, one of ours is misbarred and the other has a non-standard pattern. One of them came from Mitch, and another from someone who bought an old pair from Mitch. Either way, great fish, and I like their non-standard look.

Yeah I love them they actually are full black and are paired... I got mine from John and Sissy a while back... I picked these myself and I was hoping for a prayer that the barb would come threw but I got what I got because I thought it was cool... They are still onyx to me these will live out there life with me until either they pass or I pass before them...
 
Big Kev. That IS a beautiful female. The real reason I posted this thread is this. Many people buy fish from breeders who clam there babies are Onyx,because mom and dad are onyx. I have had about 40 breeding pairs of Onyx in the last 10 years. Only a few pairs have been worth keeping. I raise their babies under shop lights to insure the offspring are genetically black. Customers say all the time " I wish I came here first". I just wanted to educate people. I did not want to call other breeders out and make it personal. I do call out there fish.Lol. If you are spending your hard earned cash. You do not want a fish and a prayer. If you want an Onyx. You should buy a fish that is black on front and rear flanks. Then you don't need to pray that it will color up. I also realize that onyx can fool me sometimes. That why I offer a color guarantee. If ever you don't like the color of your onyx.bag Em up bring Em in and Swap em out. No problems. That's all,,,,,no drama. Just good old common sense. Love y'all. Booyah
