It's an alkaline solution, so the more you add, the higher your KH will be. if your alk is within normal limits, don't dose. The 8.3 is the pH level it's trying to get you at, and it's not the same as KH. There are different factors that affect your pH -- the alkalinity/calcium/magnesium/Carbon Dioxide level in your tank. Don't chase the pH, that causes alot of crash. Just make sure your basic parameters of Alkalinity/calcium/magnesium are within normal limits and you have plenty of flow and surface agitation to your tank, and oxygen in your house and you should never have to worry about your pH. I never check mine.
