L E D vs MH ???

Everyone, thank you for your input. I think am going to make a MH and LED combo this summer when I work in the weekends a lot in my shop

Just make sure you keep the LEDs cool. Its rather shocking the amount of light you loose when they start getting hot.

Ordering par tomorrow would help fellow reefers out after I get it if not to far out of my way. I hate borrowing anything!

If energy consumption is not an issue and if you can take care of the heat- MH all the way. Even light spread and corals loooove it. At least mine did.

I have always been a Halide fan and just recently experienced a radium (used to always run DE). The radiums are fantastic. Growth and color are phenomenal. I've run the OR-T247 and the Kessil a350. The kessil is currently on my frag tank. Both worked well. I experienced good color and moderate growth, but ultimately felt I could improve growth with a Halide setup with all else being equal. I currently run a 259 watt radium with 2 reefbrite xhos on my 25 cube and couldn't be happier.

There's pros and cons to each. I haven't had heat issues with my setup but if I did I probably would have stuck with LEDs. I personally believe you can be successful with either MH or LED. They're both proven to grow coral. As long as you meet the marks on all other tank necessities (I.E. flow, parameters, filtration, nutrient export, etc) either will MH or LED will leave you with nice colorful coral

I've used both leds and metal halides. You can get great growth and color with either lighting system, but the metal halides still are the best for sps. The main downside with halides is the heat they put out.
