Anyone use lanthanum chloride to remove phosphates from their tank? I have a pretty decent bioload and a good amount of feeding. Gfo just cost too much and exhaust quickly so thought this may be the next best option.
I seen a lot about it on RC. I was going to do the 5ml of LC into a 1 litter RO jug and dose slowly into a filter sock in the sump that would get hit by the skimmer after.
I've used phosphate rx, which is lanthanum chloride but already diluted so save to use right out of the bottle. Had no issues with it what so ever, i do know there are studies though that can cause some lateral line issues in some tangs.
I've used it successfully. However, if I recall, it might cause issues with Yellow, Purple, Desjardinii or Scopas Tangs. Also, it will form a white precipitate, which I'm not a fan of, that needs to be removed by filter or skimmer. Best to dose in the sump or return. Here's a good article if you haven't seen it already....http://www.coralmagazine-us.com/content/foiling-phosphate
When i dosed mine, i would put the drops in right by the skimmer intake. I remember someone saying they would take the lid of their skimmer and put the drops right into the skimmer so they could be skimmed out.
