LED light

Pass on them, 1 Watt LED chips are not up to par for a Reef tank. You will regret & eventually spend more money replacing them.
If you like to go with a fixture on budget go with Apollo reef LED

Further better, build your own, I build my own LED set up just last month & am very happy about it. Got all my LED's from Fedy LED directly.
 
I was thinking of doing my own led fixture too but I have no idea where and how to go about it or how much I would need for a 65 gallon. I am guessing 2 fixtures since it has the middle bracket.

I will pass on those LEDs then and see what else I find. I currently have 150w metal halide over my tank but I don't think its enough, especially for a 24" high tank.
 
Good start, you are starting with the unknowns. Don't let it trouble you too much ask away any questions & we will try to help you.
To begin with answer these questions:
1. Do you need a clean lighting finish as you don't have a Hood?
2. I am not a DIY or handy man kind of person?
3. I get intimidated with electrical quickly

If your answer is no to all of the above question, do the following
1. A lot of local, National & overseas vendors supply LED's
Local: reefledlights
National: rapidled
International: Satis led, fedy led

Do your research on which way you like to go.
Pretty much the difference is CREE LED's / Bridgelux chips. I don't want to get into too much detail, but price difference is huge.

After you have done this research, we can help you pan out the rest.

I just converted my 110G corner tank & my 300G SPS tank including my refugium to LED lighting. I feel inspired to demo my set up & walk you through it, if anybody is interested I can do it as a group over some week end.

My answer is no to them all.

I know what to get to make an LED fixture but just don't know how many LEDs I need for my tank. I was thinking of working off a drilled and tapped heatsinks from reefled that is 16" by 6" to cover each side of the tank. For that heat sink, I am unsure of how many leds would be good and what kind. I really like the 460nm blue actinics so would like the blue leds to be that shade. Didn't want the fixture to have too much blue in it but at the same time, not too white. I guess even blues and white leds would be good? I have never tried or had red bulbs over my fowlr tank so not sure what kind of color that would give off if i was incorporate a few of those in the fixture.

This is the extent of what I know and want in an LED fixture before doing research.

If I was to go with this, what size heat sink would be good for this? Would alternating blues and whites be good for the individual strips or should I throw in some some red in there too?
