im at a loss as to what i should use to light my (soon to be built) frag tank.
the lighting rig does not need to look nice, it will not be display. coral growth would be key here, as well as of course a lower cost is always nice.

choices so far:
4 bulb 36" T5
*already have it,
*bulbs will cost me $50 per 6-8 months.
*156 total watts
*vast color variety

150w metal halide
*need ballast, bulb, and reflector
*approx cost $250 + $50-80 every 6-8 months.
*150 total watts
*20k color

2x Par38 LED bulbs.
*approx costs $250
*would never need replacement.
*42 total watts
*20k color

DIY LED setup
*24 3w CREE LEDs
*approx $250
*would never need replacement
*16k color

power compact lighting
*just kidding
*PC's suck

all input is welcome, thanks.

id say if you are just doing frags of z&p, softies and lps, just use the T5 fixture you have now, and for those corals you only need to change your bulbs every 12-18 months or so. If you are going to have sps frags, id say the Par38 bulbs since they will be easy to resell later once you no longer need them.
