I'm JUST getting my 360 gal tank up & running it's 8 x 3 x 2
waters been in about 3 weeks, I've had water checked and placed a few starter LFS in it.

I want to eventually end up with some coral and some larger fish

I want to buy LIGHTING now and have decided either ecotech radion G2 or PRO are top contenders
since I have an MP 40 e and MP 60 e set of powerheads for FLOW

SO... are the RADION PRO WORTH $ 300 per fixture more than the G2 ?

What's up with this new Orphek ATLANTIC

it looks like it is TWICE the fixture as Radion PRO, at about the same price
AS IN twice the LED's and TWICE the length

HELPpppp please

YEA this is my first post so be gentle LOL

Hi Bruce, it really depends on what you are growing, the Pro has UV LED's which IMO are worthless, in addition, to those it does have several other LED's.

I'd say that the G2 would be fine for you tank unless you decided to put SPS or high light depend corals on your sand bed, in addition to that, I'm pretty sure that EcoTech Marine will be coming out with new optics and ways to better enhance your spread if you so choose.

So it is in my opinion that the G2 will suit your needs based on the info gathered.

As for the Orphek, they run different LED's and a different wattage, so their claims of the best park and kelvin really do not make sense and I find it hard to see how any LED manufacture can really claim that. Just a marketing gimmick I guess.

You do got something awesome to look forward too, the Reef Link (when it comes out) will be able to sync your lights up to your pumps and provide better control features then what it current holds.

Most people have a complaint on the night time mode on the MP's, well soon you can sync night time with your Radion LEDs.

:)

Pretty exciting stuff ETM has coming.

Gary,

thank you for your input, i really appreciate it. I read up a bit on the reef link and YAH it sure looks like a GREAT tool to use...
i'm definitely buying ECO..... I met Glen from Advanced Aquatics last week, first time in his store, and he said the same... the G2 should be fine. Only other thing is how to install the G2 ( or pro ) Glen said to make the,m ~ 15-16" above the water line... an ECO customer support guy seemed to think 6-8 " above water line.... any comments ?

Yea so it really depends again on what your goal is. I know most of the folks in the EcoTech office run them just above the water line, about 8 inches. Smaller nano tanks would/could be much higher.

Think of it this way,

1) How often do you plan to reach into your tank and the lights may or may not get in the way?

2) depth of the tank, and what you have on the bottom

3) higher up the lights are the more intensity you will need to run to get more par or usable light on the bottom of the tank.

so in other words, it depends on you, there is nothing wrong with running your light at 100% (i do it for a 12" tank and about 8 inches above the water)

Mine's been running fine, it also depends on the mode. I use a preset one that I h ave the settings at 100% however not each color is 100%. If that even makes any sense. The mode is running at 100%, there we go better way to say it.

my tank is 24 tall sorry to say I have NO idea what corals I'll end up with,, i DO want some coral but I want some BIG fish as well.... I'm still torn between the g2 and Pro, though I'm thinking PRO may just be better for " coral only " since the extra wavelengths' are there to help the viewing " POP" in the blues
if I'm into FISH as well, maybe better to SAVE the $ 300 per fixture and buy some livestock LOL
Appreciate your input guys thanx

I've been told the pros are equivalent to a 250w halide, while the g2 are weaker and thus would nene more to support sps versus a pro.
