Make sure your doors are locked!

Im glad you had your door bolted Eric and that everyone is ok. Same thing happened to my mother a few months ago. She lives in a great area across from a park so it can happen anywhere. She had always been really bad about locking the door. Two men tried to walk in the house in broad daylight with people at the park. Luckly the door is very tricky to open and were not able to get in. She got a dog and learned to lock the door after that!

We have a yard sign for our lawn, porch and driveway light, and motion lights for the side and back yard. I think it's all random, so don't second guess it can't happen to you. Be careful folks :)
 
all i can say is to get an alarm system or a big dog. i live in a 100+ condo unit building in lakeview. These condos aren't cheap. I just rent mine. Last year on a Sunday during a Bears game, someone with a crowbar got thru my front door and stole my laptop, psp, camera and some jewelry. I was gone for no less than 2 hours. If they want to get in, they will figure a way. The building does have camera surveillance and we did get a picture of a person coming in around that time and leaving around the time before I got back. But could not identify him.

I lock my doors but if they do get in they will have to deal with my shepard if they are lucky enough to make it past the shepard then they will just get shot!! glad to hear your ok thou
 
I know many of you have kids but I dont and im glad i have my .45 at hand and others hidden!! People are wacked out!! sorry to hear bud!!
 
Scary, last summer we had the same thing occur. I was in the basement when the dog got up outta no where and rushed upstairs. She took him down and took a nice chunk out of his calf before he ran away.

Eric - Sorry to hear about your attempted break in. Pretty scary stuff. I miss my rotties since no one ever messed with us! Our mutts do a pretty good job now though.

Is anyone familiar with Chicago gun laws? I have my grandfather's gun collection at my parents house in WI and my father in-law is a gun collector in MI so I get a chance to shoot often. I'd like to bring a hand gun to Chicago but I'm not too familiar with the laws. I have my FOID card and I'm looking into the classes that I need to take. I'm not sure if I can bring one of my grandfather's(mine) handguns down and register it here. Also, I have a 16gauge shotgun that my father in-law is holding for me in Michigan when go pheasant hunting. I'm assuming that would need to be registered as well if I brought it here. Anyone know? I live in the city of Chicago.

This what I was able to find online.

• A valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card issued by the State of Illinois

• Two identical passport-size photos taken in the last 30 days showing the person’s full face, head and shoulders

• A valid Driver’s License, or if the resident doesn’t possess one, a letter from a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist attesting that the applicant meets the minimum vision requirements to obtain an Illinois driver’s license

• A signed affidavit from a firearms instructor approved in the State of Illinois stating that the applicant has completed a firearms safety and training course.

• A $100 application fee

After obtaining a Chicago Firearms Permit, residents can purchase a firearm. Residents must then register their firearm within 5 days with the Chicago Police Department.

Only one handgun can be registered in any 30-day period. The cost is a one-time $15 fee per firearm, and the person will be required to file an annual report.

To register a firearm the owner must provide information on the type of weapon, the manufacturer, the serial number, where it was obtained or purchased and where the weapon will be located.

Hmm... Maybe the fact that I have a Marked Vehicle that says "CAUTION STAY AWAY : K-9 UNIT" will act as a deterrent. If not, maybe the 75lb German Shepherd (K9) and 60lb Boxer (personal dog) and the robber can have a 'play date' lol
