dumb question but how to tame a mean fish i have a large vlamingii tang that is my favorite lately hes costing too much money killing other fish to a point im afraid to keep or add any others he is with a puffer right now killed my tusk and ran three damsels out of the tank literally they jumped and landed on egg crate currently i feed him two skinny sheets of nori every few day as it says this will make him happy hes the only fish with a cave he just is mean any ideas hate to rehome but getting old fast

I think a fish is a fish. If you get what I'm saying. It's their character. It's like us humans. Some of us are nice and some of us are a$$e$$.

yep ^^^

The only way is to get a fish that is more aggressive so it puts that fish in it's place. But then you still will have the problem.

usually when I encounter agression with fish I seperate the mean one in the same tank with egg crate for about a week that way he still sees the other fish through the crate the whole time. After a little while they just get used to eachother. i have done this many times and has been efficient 99% of the time.

did you try rearanging the rocks? try that and the egg crate. just cut him off. but if you decide to rehome let me know i might be interested.

i already rearranged rock but ill do it again and try the crate id think about rehoming but id be scared that other fish would be beat up in your tank ill let u know how it goes

If you have a second tank you can move him to it then he won't be the dominate fish in that tank,If not find him a new home,Once they think they are king fish they keep with that role!

When i build a new tank tangs are the last fish i purchase because they will always be the dominate fish.

They will but they won't expect the whole tank to be there territory, They will choose a zone of there own and defend it.

Yeah, not a whole lot you can do now that hasn't already been mentioned. When I'm stocking fish, I (try to) plan out my entire stock list then rank them in order of agression. Eventually, I'll put the most agressive fish in last and, if possible, try to get them smaller than the previous less agressive tank mates.

yeah i like to start with smaller more aggressive fish then ween in the bigger less aggressors. but that's only for tangs. however i have noticed throwing two fish like tangs that are large specimens in a tank together at different times usually ends bad so never add 2 big tangs at once not after each other.

so i added two more fish to the tank and knock on wood all is well doesnt mess with them at all and has seemed to calm down to his old ways was really weird because even tho he was mean with the five other tangs in the reef never drove any to death took advise and picked up to be larger fish two angel a blue face and a passer thanks for the help all oh both are about two three inches
