I had to do a quick take down of my tank to replace the floor yesterday.
I took down the tank the night before. Since I had been having an algae bloom I decided to take out each rock one at a time and scrub it down with a brush in my driveway. After each rock was scrubbed I put it in the temporary tank I was borrowing to house the fish during the temporary take down. I then went back to my display tank to scoop my fish.
To my surprise I found my Clownfish, which I had presumed dead, in my overflow box. He was doing great. I was able to account for all of my fish except my male Blue Throat Trigger. He's about 5 inches and the biggest fish currently in my tank so he is hard to miss. The tank was empty of live rock at this point and I couldn't see him for the life of me. I tried sifting through my sand bed in case he had somehow buried himself but found nothing. I searched the floor but saw no sign of him. I was really confused but decided to accept the loss and be thankful for being able to recover my Clownfish.
The next day I noticed to my surprise that my Trigger was in the temporary tank with all of the other fish. He was behaving normally and looked in great shape. I realized he must have been hiding in one of the rocks when I took it out for a quick scrub down. Admittedly I didn't have any rocks out for more than a minute but I am surprised I didn't scrub him when I was cleaning the rocks.
I usually don't name my fish but I am now officially calling him Chuck Norris.
