I have a large piece of live rock the size of a basketball I want to move it from my display to my sump. The underside is covered with sponges.
what is the best way to move it with out killing the sponges? Any one think they will be ok with being out of water less than 5 minutes?
suggestions comments will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Most likely the sponges were hitchhikers on coral, rocks or frags into our tank. They came in to your tank being exposed to air and are hardier species. Unless you’ve been in the habit of transferring things into our tank while totally submerged and avoided air exposure, it's most likely you can pull the rock from your DT and put it directly into your sump without much negative effect.

It's not fool proof, but with so man sponges they are hard to identify properly to know if they tolerate air or not.

+1 Josh, those particular sponges can be exposed to air without harm.
