mp40's not for my tank ????help

So im convinced these mp40's are not maded for odd tanks i kinda got over the hum because these things are sweet. however i noticing that they are not getting good flow in my corner tank. ive changed the settings moved them around and still never have enough flow thru my tank like i had thought i had. found this out by putting duncans in middle of tank a little further back. what should i do??? i debating selling them and going back to koralias and trying tunze. prob four power heads will be enough. i figures i ask before i throw them up for sale today thanks in advance
 
I say follow your first hunch from NWIMAC and look into closed loops. If you've still got that mag 24, this could be an awesome outcome. I'm more than happy to help.
 
This is confusing and out of the manual. If I interpret it correctly it says both on the same side? in master/slave mode?

Corner Aquarium
This corner aquarium allows for pumps to be placed only on the left or right side. In our example, the master pump running the EcoSmart mode is placed on the right, and a slave pump positioned on the left would be placed into the orange mode. Any additional slave pumps placed on the right would then be set to the white mode which represents that they are on the same side of the tank as the master.

Id love to do that but the mag 24 is so loud no matter what you do to it its is loud dont want that under my stand but those are an option tooo
 
You could trade the mag 24 for an iwaki or something. No knocking MP40s, but if you run a closed loop you decide when/where/ how strong you want your flow to be in any given spot in your aquarium. Even if you don't use an oceans motions or SCWD, if you plumb a circle you can easily create a swirling gyre in your corner unit easily.
 
I know im not knocking mp40s ethier i actually love them and will always reccomend them to a std shape tank lol they kicked *** in my 210 . as far as plumbing id have to see the pvc in my tank when viewing with or without the pvc painted black. so i guess this is the issue with any powerhead unless i drill and see just bulk heads for the returns like i have now
 
In addition to being noisy, Mag 24 uses 265w of power. That is perhaps the biggest drawback of using a close loop - you need a power hungry pump to drive it. Mag is also water cooled and it will add alot of heat to the system as well.
 
Reeflos or Iwakis are low wattage. I was recommending that because he already had one. And if you run one pump on a closed loop compared to half a dozen powerheads, power usage gets closer and closer, mixed with extra heat compared to an external pump, and how much space inside the tank they take up.

The closed loop does take more wattage, but costs less. Granted Chris already has other powerheads, but the amount of tank space mixed with extra heat they'll create, closed loops advantages greatly outweighs the disadvantages.
 
I have a reeflo as well thats out of commissio i need new barings i think but im lost

Chris, you need to play around with BOTH pumps on one of the flat panes, run them in sync mode. Try one say 4" down and 4" back from the front pane, and the other like 8" down and 8-10" back from the front pane. This will mess with the undertow effect a bit and create a little more random flow.

Otherwise, you need to run one on the opposite flat pane, and use the ecosmart modes only with the 2 pumps linked, but on the slave pump you will hit mode twice to put it in the 3rd channel normally reserved for the "back" pane of glass in a standard tank, this is not anti-sync, it is an exclusive mode that creates a cross-current in the tank.

You beard is wise indeed unfortunatly turning both up high in sync and not in sync or in ecosmart they just dont move whole tank i dont have a back pain of glass per say only three sides
 
Using anti-sync on the same side won't help you at all. You want to use them on the same channel in sync mode, one set lower and further back than the other on the same side. I understand how the corner tank is designed with no back wall, I am telling you an option is to run the slave pump on the opposite corner in the "back wall" mode ONLY available with the 2 ecosmart modes, Tidal Swell mode in particular. Pretend your left corner is the side, and your right corner is the back, makes more sense that way. Bring the pumps back farther away from the front pane of glass so the water has a farther path to flow before it gets deflected by the curved glass.

There is no reason 2 mp40's shouldn't be enough flow in your corner tank, plenty of people are using 1 or 2 of them on the same tank with great results. Just hang in there. Perhaps you just aren't seeing how much flow they really are creating because you are used to seeing them running on a standard 4 sided tank?
