nikon d5000 white balance

Hi, I was trying to get some pictures of my tank and corals. I read that i need to adjust the white balance by placing a white object in the tank and then taking a picture of it. I tried doing just that but the camera was not adjusting it kept giving me a message "unable to measure" I am using the stock lens, f4, and it was 1/125 sec. any help would be great thank you!

thank you for the suggestion! i tried that but sadly it didnt work. i think it might be the lens that is giving me trouble. maybe i need a different lens??

I'm not sure why a lens would prevent your camera from measuring color.

im not sure either, when i was trying to measure color the picture was not in focus.

read this this guy tells you what settings worked best for him and compares them to the settings out the box. i got the d3100 and used the settings he used on his 3100 and i personaly compared them and they worked for me id give it a try.

if anyone has any bad stuff to say about this guy i honestly dont care and please keep it to yourself. i find alot of the stuff he has on his website to be great especially for beginners like me.
