Hello all,

Well as the title says nitrates are back and aggressive. I don't want to disturb sand bed but its looking like I have no choice. I'm regular with water changes but never syphon bed. Any thoughts?

how do your corals look, i never tested for nitrates.
how deep is the sand bed?
also how big is the tank?
how often are you doing WC?
whats in the tank?

Ok so coral is simple. Pom pom candy cane hammer frog finger leather shrooms a few zoas n palys. Start up tank 72 gal 29 sump refugium 5 or 6 in of sand in display . Most coral looks soso bubble not as open as usual and fingers look like crap. Candys starting to look bad as well. I do weekly 20% out of sump.missed this past week cause I was lazy figured one week wouldn't kill. Hasn't in last 4 months I've had tank.

Something doesn't seem right... This tank has been up for 4 months and you have NO3 issues.. What are you feeding your tank and how much? What skimmer are you using? How is your bio load (light, med or high)?

You might want to have someone look at your tank and test with good kits..

I've had tank for 4 moths got it from a friend who had it for a 6 years. when I got it it was in crap shape. Im wondering if my kit is expired its nuts. I only feed Mysis and rods food maybe twice a week. bio load is kind of light I think. idk need the nitrates own fast lots of algae on rock and need to start scrubbing before its perm

Its not always good to disturb a established system or a DSB. You will always run to problems unless you redo certain things..

there is a denitrifing bacteria i for get who makes it but you can get it at petco (althought i dont always agree with chemical help) i have used it once to fix a nitrate prob i had

If tank was in bad shape when u got it and then u moved it. Its gonna take lots of water changes and time to get it all good . Did u rinse sand before setting back up or buy new sand ? It just might be cycleing still. Ive seen tank have mini cycles for up to a year .

Oh and i completely stir my sand bed once a week to keep the sand bed clean. Ive had same sabd bed for ten years

so im using red sea test and it comes in at between 4 and 3 ppm....lmao so 3 duh...lol..but when I used test strip it reads in access of 200? im going with test strip considering I used a small sample of water I got from some cheato bigbranecle gave me....and I moved tank I moved it with sand and a bit of water still in it (HEAVY AS ALL GET OUT) I stirred sand at first then added new live sand. been reading not good idea to stir sand
