Yes, same one, you can see picture on my thread how happy it was once, now is closed and white bacterial stuff is growing on it. Will post picture later when i get home. This is second one that did it like that. If yours continues to do great i need to know your secret :)
 
So with the feedings. Is everyone feeding in tank?

I kinda like the idea of the buffet dip. But isn't that a complete Pain pulling it all the time?

Yeah, i mix the powders in a small container of tank water, and then pour it into the flow.
 
I have mine in a place where its easely accessible.
Yes , its a pain but I want it to live Lol.The plan is do this buffet dip 3 times a week , so its not that bad.
One concern is, do these creatures root into the susbtrate?
Because In gonna have it pulled out every now and then to feed , idk if it will affect it negatively

Is everyone having better luck with plant based food or live based?a mix of both?

Smitty, you have an amazing collection.
Gorgons and sea fans have always been an attractive to me but you always hear the sad endings.
Its nice to see a tank with so many.
 
You can continue to do what's best for you, but i honestly think it's irritating the coral by constantly removing it, yes they prefer to be anchored. This is what i feed my tank twice a day.
 
True,another thing Ive wanted to try is cutting the bottom of a 2 litre Pepsi,clean the plastic.
Then cap the Gorgonian inside the bottle and feed through the top of the bottle with the baster so the food stays trapped inside with the coral.

Not sure this would work. You would lose water flow in it. I would think the food would struggle to mix around

Just try turning your pumps off and then squirting the food directly on the coral. I do this sometimes and the corals love it.
 
Im not used to feeding my coral or filter feeders,do these live /frozen/powder foods constantly being fed to the tank pullute it significantly ?

Phosphates /nitrates that sort of thing,or do the coral feed on them enough that it wont make a difference
 
I have so many corals in there, plus my system is a lil older, so it doesn't raise my levels at all.
 
Tips on placement? Should they just sway a little from flow, or should they be in a constant current kinda blowing?

They prefer to be in a constant current, med to high flow if possible. Some of them tend to do well in a low flow also, as long as they are moving.
 
Well....mine was also starting that white bacterial film mark was speaking about.

I cut the lights off for 3 days for another reason.
2days after the lights came back on. My gorg has all polyps out like day one with that bacterial film gone.

So im a very happy reefer.
Minus my current fish loss
 
So just curious. One of the new Gorgs I got is blue, branches kinda like a cactus but is flat and has polyps only around all the edges. Last night I came home, and it looks as though it was peeling. Has a thin blue film that looks like it peeled from the top down, and new polyps were out down the middle of all the branches. None of these polyps were visible until last night.

Is this normal?

That's how they protect themselves against algae buildup, much like a toadstool. However, something also could have pissed him off to do it prematurely. Fresh Carbon might beneficial in preventing a rise in DOCs and putting other corals on high alert for chemical warfare if you run a mixed tank.

Adequate flow helps the shedding process.

Could it have been from the shipping? They just came in Friday. Glad to know its not bad though.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. Also, you may see some minor reactions from your more established corals.
 
Yeah, sounds normal, just make sure it's getting some good flow to help it adjust and shed that film off.
