Nuvo 16 lighting

I'm still not quite understanding why you haven't already gone with a Coral Compulsion Par30. There are plenty of DIY hanging solutions or you can go with Jimmy's gooseneck.

Bulb is $60 and if you DIY something you can hang it with some conduit, an extension cord and an e26/e27 socket for $10 and look totally professional.

For another $3.50 you could even get some 90* optics on it to further supplement the light under the stock skyye lights. I bet if you asked Jimmy he would swap the optics for free.

Probably going to do this

If he puts this between the skkye fixtures, won't he have a problem with spotlighting a different color in the tank? (I don't know how much the Par30 spreads)

That's what the wide optics would be for. Tank is shallow enough that there would still be plenty of light. That would be a potential issue with any other fixture he chooses though. At least the Par bulbs give you options. The BEST choice in my opinion would be to mod the stock lights but he seems pretty against it.

Both seem like pretty good options. Modding lights would probably look better.

I ran 2 skyye 8 watt clip on with the skyye 24 inch 15 watt 456nm. I was able to keep anything that I put in the tank, I have zoas - acans - blastos - acros - montis - and frogspawn. Everything grew(Zoas the most)and even had sps encrust. That is the best combo I feel for color, power and price. There is a whole thread on it as I sent in my PM he even did a few tests on his tank where he took the strip off and tried to grow SPS. I still have the strip if you end up wanting it like I said as I just upgraded my light to a Hydra. The price I offered it to you for still stands if you want, under your $80 request.

Alex,
i am in the same situation you are in. I found some replacement 3w LEDs and some cheap drivers, the mod could be done under $80. If you want to make the trip, id be more than willing to complete this project with you. the lights will look stock but with high power LEDS should be able to keep almost anything under them with out it looking too cluttered with light fixtures, It would be a shame to tarnish the sleek, modern look of this nuvo with some eye sores of lighting. If you have any questions feel free to text me 224-637-9690
