Octopus Extreme GONE WILD

I got a new Reef Octopus Extreme XS 200 Protein Skimmer 7 months ago and had been working great,,,,last night came home and was over flowing and filling up wast container short of flooding. I opened the flow and cleaned up the mess. when I got it if you plug the air inlet the bubbles would stop the level would drop. Now when I plug it the level rises and over flows. The only change I have done is my ALK had been low and I have been dosing to slowly bring back up. Could this set off more turbulence and volume.

so when you plug the top of it it still produces bubbles I have same skimmer it's obviously getting air from somewhere but don't know why that would over flow of you adjust the valve to lower water level I have to open valve when I water change but only for 10 minutes or so
