One more question please

I started by loading the tank with forty# of CaribSea Life Rock. 20# of Agra-Alive, & 40# Ocean Direct Oolite mixed. After the saltwater my plan was to add whatever I can fit (and still look good) of the fifty or so pounds of live rock I have cycled in another tank. Now I'm wondering if the Life Rock will cause another cycle, and if so how long it may last.

Thanks again,

Mike

How long was it out of water for and was it shipped wrapped in wet newspaper or other material?

It is likely that a small amount of ammonia will be present from it even it everything was done 100% right. What really matters is if the bacteria in your current setup can handle the increase in load and process it. I'd keep an eye on your ammonia, nitrate, nitrites and just monitor over the next week or so. I would plan for a small cycle. The only thing you could do to avoid that would be to add the rock slowly over time.

My experience with this is adding additional live rock which was transported in buckets ~30 minutes out of water to my tank with live rock. This experience did not cause any noticeable spikes. Hope this helps.

I have the live rock in a fully cycled tank in the basement. Should I remove the Life rock then use the live rock to get started, then add a piece of the Life rock at a time? Or would it be ok seeing that the live rock will just be moving from one tank to the other. I plan on using quite a bit of the water from the tank the rock is coming out of.

Thanks,

Mike

If everything had been cycled already then you shouldn't see much of any die off..
