I would like to poll the masses.....

I have recently acquired a Reef Octopus Skimmer and I have heard raving reviews.....besides I got it for free.

But, In all your years of experience what is the best skimmer out there for a 130 gallon reef tnak?

Secondly, What is a recirculating skimmer?

I am really interested in the experiences of other not slamming of bad equipment, I am just curios on what everyone thinks is best and why?

Thanks for playing!

I had a 150g tank last year/early this year and had a dnw recirculating skimmer that absoluutely kicked butt!!Great skimmers at great prices.

If you want the best,go with Bubble King,They are built like tanks and are dead silent.

I'm very partial to Bubble Magus products. I have had the NAC6A, NAC8, and have set up a couple NAC3.5 skimmers. All skim great and are very quiet. All the power, great construction, no frills, and a great price to match. The Bubble Magus NAC9 would be a good match. The Sea Side Aquatics CS2 would also do really well for your tank.

Thank you everone for your input. I am new to the forum and I like to see what everone is using. I like the reef octopus and never heard of Bubble Magnus until now.....

Like people say, you Learn something new everyday.

If I didn't have a CPR skimmer/sump that came with my tank, I'd be rockin an octopus. You scored a great skimmer for free!

Bubble Magus used to be considered a "discount brand" and admittedly none of their designs are anything new or proprietary (Very similar to SRO). They are just another Chinese company that copies the designs of companies like Bubble King, ATB, and others. The nice thing about that is that you are basically getting the top of the line skimmer at a fraction of the price.

You used to be able to get a Bubble Magus NAC6 for $100 brand new. Once hobbyists found out about the performance of Bubble Magus products (skimmers, dosers, etc.) the prices went up, but are all still much cheaper to the "top of the line" products that they are identical copies of.

All that being said, SRO skimmers are also excellent (and share a similar history to Bubble Magus), and if you got one for free that is a GREAT deal!

I had a BM 3.5 and it worked like a champ with no issues. It skimmed awesomely but I upgraded to my current SWC 120. I love it but it's finicky because it's rated at over twice my water volume. It does a great job though.

If I had to do my setup over again, I would have made my sump smaller and did an external recirculating skimmer.
