PH Probe Calibration Solution

Hey everyone,

So I was going to order some of the PH probe calibration solution packets, but BRS is out of them as usual. I'm not sure if they order 10 of each or what, but they're always out for some reason.

So as I was searching around, I found this stuff:

I bought them off of amazon, and the cool thing is that you get a lot for the money.

For $10.50 you get 7.0 and 10.0 Here's a link to them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007X5JQF0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I believe each individual packet of the solution from neptune is $2. So every time you calibrate, it's four bucks.

Hope this helps some of you out as I know we're always looking for ways to keep the maintenance costs down for our reefs, while not sacrificing quality.

i just ordered some from dfs .. they are waiting at the concierge for me to collect this evening ;)

they are $1.09 each

So did you buy the packets or bottles like the ones I just got? You may want to look into the bottles. Way more economical.

I use the same ones. They work fine

That's what I was thinking. I figured for ten bucks, I'd just order them and try them out.

How are you using them? Are you just dunking the probe right into the bottle, or are you taking out a little solution and tossing it after calibrating the probe?

i got the packets .. but how often do we need to calibrate the probe ?? i meant in a curious way.. do they go off all the time ???

You can calibrate them every day if you want lol!

But seriously, they recommend every three to six months. I wouldn't mind doing them once a month now since I have so much solution.

I wouldn't dip in the bottle, I'd pour a small amount in a beaker, would last way longer than the packets

If you rinse the probes with ro di first then what would be the problem with dipping in the bottle? I believe the instructions say to dip in the bottle anyways

I think that the general concern would be contamination of the solution. If you were to really clean and shake the RODI off the probe, the chances of contamination would be minimal and also dilution would be minimal as well.

However, I do figure that there are, at the very least, 40 packets worth of solution in these bottles.

same here, plus you may think the probe is clean, but it may not be (stuff we can't see) and it could generally effect the solution
