Phosban reactor

So haveing some phosphate issues From new rock settling in was thinking of a phosban reactor is it worth it does it do anything i refuse to run gfo i thought about bio pellets but they scare me lol

Not answering your question but I'm running biopellets. Brought nitrates down from 40 to 10. Started at 1/4 dose started to slowly increase 1/8 every month. So far so good getting close to full dose for my system.

Running seachem phosnet in a reactor. Change every 2-3 weeks I have no algae issues.

Good luck!

I run seachem phosguard in a tlf reactor. Reason because i suck at regulating flow for gfo and i end up breaking it all apart from high flow.
So. With phosguard needing high flow it works for me aince i just open up the valves from the manifold.

Im considering biopellets least til this rock stops leaching but i keep trying to talk my self out of it either way i guess dont matter gonna have to order a reactor

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think biopellets will do much for your phosphate problem. I'd run one of the seachem products listed above if you don't want to run GFO

Are there nitrates as well? The biopellets won't work without both nutrients available.
Gfo is safe., I use it.

Biopellets wont do much for phosphates, more for nitrates.. I know they make some all in one biopellet those supposed to reduce both.

Thanks

Seachem phosnet is high capacity GFO. You have to rinse it out to get the dust out. If you do that the display tank shouldn't look like tea.

Whenever algae starts becoming noticeable I change the phosnet media. So far so good.

My understanding of biopellets is the same really only helps with nitrates.

I'm also going to look at the marine pure spheres for additional nitrate reduction filtration.

I agree that biopellets don't do much for PO4. I run GFO with mine. If your tank doesn't have inhabitants yet, you could drop Sea Klear into a filter sock. I hear it's really effective. I know JayJerk used to do it. I guess you could do it with inhabitants too, but be careful and read up first.

Tank is fully stocked i wont ever run gfo again . So is any body running a phosphate reactor and how is it working

I've run GFO for a long time and I'll be honest it's not all it's cracked up to be. It works well if your diligent in replacing it. I always forget and it ends up being in the reactor for like 6 months....IMO a quality refugium is far more beneficial than a GFO, or even go with a DIY charro grower.

I currently do run GFO, and don't get me wrong it works when it's fresh but I routinely forget to replace it when I should.

So in conclusion, works great if your the type of reefer who's diligent with maintenance. If your the type of reefer who is less diligent with maintenance it may just end up being an expense.

fuge +1, I feed heavy! bunch of hungry lps. I've got a chaeto/fern fuge and run gfo. like above mentioned, it's a chore on its own. effective in my tank.

Thats my thought exactly wasted money with gfo . I do run a fuge good size one too the issue will eventually go away after rock settles the coral look great just red slime alage from phosphates driving me nuts i will figure something out or just close my eyes lol

Might there be dead spots with the new scape? Crank up flow in that area?

I know you have corals in there, killing the lights for 4 days was a miracle for me with the red/purple slime

Well i ended up dosing chemi clean for 3 days and a double dose didnt put a dent in the red slime so depspite my hate of gfo i started running some gfo and carbon so far nothings changed

There's a thread on another board where they are saying red slime comes in 2 dramatically different forms....one is cyano and one is spirulina(sp?)...and they look basically the same, but chemi-clean only works on one of the two. They are 'pioneering' an H2O2 dosing regime to deal with the other.

If you don't have a microscope they tell you to put some of the redslime in a cup of tank water and add a few ml of H2O2...wait 12hrs and if it melts...it's the kind H2O2 works on and chemiclean doesn't.

I guess you already did the reverse...and tested chemiclean in your DT

Anywhose, if you can't find the site/thread I'm referring to PM me later and I'll look for it.
