Hey guys,
I am kind of freaking out right now because I just noticed that the Oak stand that I have my 210 gallon tank on is starting to split up a little on the front left side near the corner. Currently I have a 4 inch split starting at the bottom of the stand (see photo) on a 37inch tall Solid Oak Stand. I never noticed this crack until today and am wondering if this is something that I should be concerned about? Does anyone else have or have had a splitting stand in the past and what am I looking at in terms of time frame for the wood to split all the way up? Is it something that might happen soon? Months? Years? Hopefully never? Just wondering if I should be planning to get a new stand or if this is something I shouldnt necessarily be freaking out about. Any thoughts?

Thanks guys!!!

Yes, completely level. Under our industrial carpet is a completely level concrete slab, we had our floors checked before buying the tank.

Thanks for your help :)

I would get a washable marker and get a small line.at the end of it and make sure it isn't rising monitor it and go from there

Good idea! Thanks for the tip!I will be watching and monitoring the crack and praying that the split doesn't grow. I can't even imagine having to empty the tank and start over.

IF you are really worried about it, you can always reinforce the stand from the inside, by adding some wood towards the middle of the stand to help carry the weight of the tank.

That's what I was thinking. A crack is not a good sign. I'd reinforce all 4 corners if possible becasue if 1 corner isn't strong enough then perhaps the other 3 are over stressed too.

you could also inject some epoxy as best as possible. That might arrest the cracking. I think it sort of looks like natural cracking due to the wood drying, but the idea with the marker is a really good one. Can you see or feel the crack on the other side of that piece (inside)?
