Well woke this afternoon and the return isn't running. Took it out and gunna inspect. Might have to find another one :(

Took it out and took faceplate off. Nothing blocking it up. Scrubbed around with a brush. Pugged in and started. Put back together. Into tank and the. Didn't start up. Moved it around a bunch. Tapping on it. And it started. Normal?

Stopped again. I turned off pumps to feed reef chili. Went to turn back on and return wasn't returning. Took apart and the magnet was detached from the plastic impeller. Super glued the pieces together. Put pump together and stayed together but wasn't shooting out water. Was spinning some but not spitting water. Think I might need new pump. This one is a mag 7 dang dang dang and marrow I come home from work at 7 am. Sleep till 1 then leave out of town till Monday.

I'm looking at getting a brand new rio hyper flow 12 which is 750 gph. What are the thoughts on this pump? Leaning twards it cause someone is able to get it pretty cheap for me. what are people's experiences with it?

I have three other Rio pumps and the all suck. Very unreliable. They fail to start all the time. I would not use them for anything that is mission critical.

Which rios and how old are they? Is there a chance it's an Older unit that had flaws? Or an on going problem?

I've only always used Rio pumps for my tanks since I started, and the only time I had an issue was when the air tube on one somehow fell off and overflowed my skimmer like 6 years ago. You'll get stories all around and whatnot, but I've never had a problem with them at all.

I should note, I wasn't always aware of other pumps when I made these decisions originally (was the main pump my lfs carried), but after 4 tanks, and no issues, I gladly bought my 3100 for the 55 and 1700 for my water-changer.
