Question about attching return pump to vinyl tube

EricTheRed

No, I'm not a communist..
As some of you know, my 90 is broken down and sitting in pieces all over the place. As soon as my new custom sump will be finished I'll open up a new build thread. In the meanwhile, I'm wondering how you would suggest I connect my return pump to my return line? The pump is a Mag 12 and as you can see by the photo, it has a threaded outlet. Previous I just stretched a vinyl tub over it but it was never very secure. I plan on using the braided vinyl tubing for my return. Any thoughts on a better way to attach them instead of trying to stretch the tube over this...?

they sell the connectors at either lowes or home depot that will screw into your pump and go into the vinyl tubing. usually in the plumbing section, they are black plastic pieces, then you will need the hose clamp to secure.

I probably should mention that I aware I can get a threaded female barbed fitting but I was wondering if there is anything that would allow for a quick release so I can more easily take out the pump for cleaning and maintenance.

or you can use the regular PVC fittings and use those flexible PVC pipe/tubing, just use PVC glue. the flex pipes are more durable than the vinyls.

Yep they few dollars at menards bring pump with tivget right size but they sell barb attachments like nino said then just use a clamp. Some people use zip ties cause they dont want yhe metal in the sumo water but i dont trust zip ties so i use the metal or find plastic ones

That is quick release just unplug pump and unscrew by spinning pump if you don't clamp hose securely to the male adaptor piece it could blow hose off and spray water everywhere if you have a good pump that puts out decent head pressure.

Oh now u say that lol. Idk takes me few seconds to unscrew clamp and pull hose off so nit sure how much faster u need or want with a hose

I always use a PVC union on all my pumps for easy disconnect when cleaning or replacing, they have the threaded ones too

+1 use the union off all pumps and flex PVC in this case. Or hard plumb it and put another union on the return bulk head thread. If it is a barbed bulk head buy an oversize union to thread on to the threads that secure the union.

+2 i put this on every pvc pipe

Seems like you may not want a hose clamp in under water, personally I would just hard pipe it all. Depending on your new sump lay out there are a lot of ways to do it. I believe that is a 3/4 male thread on that pump. Put a 3/4 adapter coupling then a union then a standpipe to get you out of the water, next out a barb fitting and hose clamp. Also spends what you will be feeding with your pump
