Quick filter question

My son set up a 120 (freshwater ....oops). But I was wondering what the general consensus is on canisters. Are the cheapos like SunSun useable if not who's got the best bang for the buck. Sorry for a little off topic but I'm a saltwater guy and I just do t know canisters . thanks in advance.

P.s. I'll get him hooked on reef when he gets a little older!
 
I posted an answer there for ya. Been doing FW for 40 years, if he has any questions. What kinds of fish is he looking at?
 
Piranha of course. He does want to add a few others once he gets the 120 running. He has had the piranha in a 40 for a year and he realized that is much to small for him, but he does take very good care of him.
 
Just 1? He'll have to be sure any more he adds are of the same species & same size. They're really messy eaters, so I'd go with my suggested filtration.
