R/o and top off question

Im in the process of putting together my basement sump and filter system ...
I have a 55 gallon tank that i want to use for my top off , i will have this filled from my r/o unit , my question is : Is there some type of float i can put on this tank that will shut off the water supply from my r/o unit ? In the past ive had to manually turn off the unit and i sometimes forgot and had a lot of water on my floor ! I will have a different float with a pump that will pump this water into my sump for top off ? Pics of what your using would be great !

Thanks

you need this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/403/

the float switch puts back pressure on the shut off valve which cuts off your RODI. The only problem with a 55 is that you can't drill it at all. You'll have to get a bracket to hang the float from the rim of the tank or a baffle in it. Works like a charm, but you need both components and a check valve in the system. BRS video give a great explanation.

edit: it includes the check valve in the kit.

thanks man ! Ill check it out , why cant you drill a 55 ? How bout a 75 ?

55s are all tempered glass (WILL shatter). I don't think 75s have the same rule so you'd want to check each manufacturer. (could be wrong about that, but I am 90% sure it's true on 55s).

Are you planning to have a pump bring the top off to the DT or a gravity system (solenoid)? Basically, will the RO vessel be higher or lower than your DT? Eith can be handled without needing to drill for this application.

my dt will be up stairs but my sump and equipment will be downstairs , and yes i plan on using a pump to fill my sump from this tank
thanks ! Ill have to look and see if i can use something else other than the 55 then as i needed my 75 sump drilled on the side , and i wanted a 55 to use as my fuge ?

thats awesome ! Ill have to try that , it will save me the cost of drilling my 75 as well , this will work with any size pvc correct ?

it will work with any size (and they're like $7!). I have two in 3/4" draining a 20t fuge into a 29g sump/skimmer return. No problems to date. You ocassionally have to draw air out of the check valve with a syringe or your mouth (or a tom's aqualifter((smarter))) but I have them connected with airline to a single outlet and that makes it easy. You can paint it black with Krylon Fusion spraypaint, but it sounds like you're in your sump anyway. Could easily make an overflow box for the draw side too. Definitely want redundancy. it will absolutely restart on its own if you lose flow temporarily (it is NOT a siphon), but with just a single tube it's pretty easy for a snail to stop one up. Let me know if you make one. I've been preaching them since Lil Bam Bam showed it to me. No one else has the cajones. LOL!

but is so ugly!!!!!! :to_pick_ones_nose3:

what if people judged you like that?!?! How would you feel?
cut the pvc just right and paint it with krylon and it's stealth or use sch80. I dunno. I can deal with hidden ugly cheap in a sump if it means more bling in the DT. I wear cheap drawers too. :a39:
