Reef in a jar challenge

I left a couple bags of chemipure sitting in a critter keeper for a week, pulled them out, pods still alive under them... Pretty sure those critters will last forever! Awesome idea nate!

I've got a DIY snowglobe kit that I'm pretty sure I could make reef-safe. :) But I'd want it completely sealed.

So what herbivore inverts are there? Or a small squirt of phyto that could regrow in sunlight? Would you just end up with green water?

that is a great idea! The problem will be tthat you are going to be using uncured silicon on the finished system. I wonder if there will be any bad chems from that.

Giving credit to ecosphere for the idea, before sealing one of these up you may want to toss in a TLF mag fox as a glass cleaner. I use one on my pico.

So after i saw this when i came over nates house it got me all curious on how the heck heck he is keeping his macro algae and hitchhiker inverts alive in there so i made my own.. Hoping to get the same results.. So far so good.. We'll see lol

Have live rock rubble, cheatomorpha algae, and Red Gracilaria..

Hopefully this becomes successful :)

I received the round boiling flask, ground stopper and mag fox all in the mail today. So here is my try. A little bit of cheato, little peice of dragon's breath, about 250ml tank water, 10ml of copepod breeder water with about 25 adult copepods, 3 pinhead sized snails, and about 3 drops of phyto. It'll be in my plant stand under 6500k lights. I'll make a proper stand in time.
