refugium help

Setting up a refugium . what do you keep in it . Deep sand bed,little sand ,no sand, live rock or rubble. what kind of Macro algae work best? Do you add a cuc?

You don't need a deep sand bed, or no sand bed at all... just rock rubble and some cheato. There are other micro algaes, but cheato seems to be the best.

I keep a deep sand bed with Chaeto, and Dragon's Breath. No live rock or cuc. Tried Caulerpa, but was a pain in the arse imo.

I've got the miracle mud that i see no point in now and plan on taking it out. With that I keep some LR and a lot of chaeto, which is excellent and keeping nirates low and doesn't go asexual like calerpa will. Only CUC I keep in there are crabs seeing as snails or anything else get caught in the chaeto rather easily and die off.
