I don't know what your flow requirements are, or your budget. I just put in a SpeedWave DC-3000 as my return pump for my 90gal. Gotta say that DC has almost no sound, certainly doesn't have the same hum that you hear with more traditional AC pumps. They are also sold under Diablo and Waveline names as well. Some of them are tough on availability right now..but thought I'd throw it out there.
I am looking for dead silent because my roommate can't stand the noise coming from my current return pump. His room is right under the tank. Did you buy the custom stand from socal tropical fish outlet or did you diy one? I would be looking to purchase the 900 GPH one but am not sure if the the stand that socal tropical fish outlet sells will fit that model.
Do you think the 1500 would be overkill? I currently have a 37 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump that's plumbed Herbie style with a 1 inch main drain and a 1 inch emergency. The return is plumbed with 3/4 inch locline. The head height is 3ft 5 inches.
I would go with 900. Your 1 in. drain will take about 600gph, than I would just run possibly a carbon and GFO reactor from the same pump. Install a ball valve after the output from pump and you can throttle down more if you need it.
I bought a Laguna 1500 today to replace a used Mag 18 that sounds like it has marbles in it. I have a 125g DT with a 50g sump. DT has 2 1.5in drains using 1 of those as a back up. Return is 1" with a bunch of 90s into 3/4" lock line. I have 2 1/2" tees tied into this line for feeding reactors, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to tune this thing to stay at one level. Which in turn is making me have problems setting an ATO. Anyone have a grenade?
Ok they don't make a click to 1". Had to buy a click to 3/4" and up it to 1". Glad a local landscape place had the adapter. They wanted $130 more than I paid for the pump, but the fitting was cheap.
So far so good. Need to order the base mount. The reviews are right. Gotta grab a hose to see if its on. My Koralia 1400s are louder than this pump, and I have it choked down a bit. Plus its on my plumbing nightmare and still pumps away!
Has anyone ordered the mount for this pump? I followed the link from RC and put the mount in my cart. $20 mount, $17 shipping on ground? Must be shipping it by bicycle...
