Rimless or not

So I have finally decided to take down my 45g cube and my 120g tanks and set up a 80 deep blue 48x24x16. I have never had a rimless tank, but considering it. Those of you that have had both, how do you feel about rimless? I would need a net top for fish, how do I accomplish this without making it look cheesy? Any help appreciated. Thx
Also does anyone know the thickness of the glass on this tank?

I have a rimless 75G and no top on it. If you're going to keep fish that have a rep for jumping I would recommend a clear mesh top. There are a few members her that might be able to help with a design and/or materials.

While some fish are more prone to jumping than others, just about any fish can jump.
 
The dimensions above aren't for the 80. I've had both rimmed and rimless. I love the look of the rimless but don't enjoy how easy it is for me to splash water out while doing maintenence and what not. I would get a mesh top. Marine depot posted a diy video earlier today here on CR about how to make a diy mesh top
 
Having both currently, the look of the rimless is great. Rimless helps with some maintenance but does make it much easier to splash water out of the tank. Rimmed are easier to put a mesh top on too. IMO, the end result is rimless. The clean look and ability to see the top water line or the rimless that win it out for me. The negatives of rimless are less for me than the clean viewing.

I personally do not like canopies or if I do it'll be a minimalistic floating canopy. So, for that reason I will always be a rimless fan. It just looks so much more sleek and modern imo.
 
I had a 60 rimless and loved it. I just recently purchased a rimless 120. The worst part was cleaning the top of the glass. You have to go slowly not to splash, and if you do splash it gets on the mag float. Once on the mag your cleaning is done until it dries. never had a fish jump, but I guess that's just luck..
 
I have always had rimmed tanks and recently set up my DB 80gal rimless.....and while I like the look of the rimless, I will honestly tell you that it is a chore to keep it looking good...I am not a fan of how the screen cover looks at all....on a rimmed tank the screen sits nicely within the trim work and looks built-in, whereas on the rimless it looks like an "add-on" sitting atop the glass.... :(
cleaning the glass with a glass magnet splashes water all along the surface and on the front glass and floor....
for a fish-less tank, rimless is just beautiful but with the addition of fish, the much needed screen cover is just an eyesore IMO....
 
I'm taking the plunge into rimless, getting ready to set up a 60g rimless cube! Going to be anemone only plus a pair or two of baby clowns! I love the rimless look!

Rimless look is cool but i think only cool if its truely rimless and no screen top but then your fish will carpet surf so im sticking with canopy look and glass tanks acrylic and me dont mix lol
 
I am not a fan of the visible screen top required. I will stick with a closed canopy unless they make huge advances in the screen top.
 
I say rimless all the way! If for nothing else than the aesthetics! I also love the look of the Infinity or edgeless tanks where the water flows over the edge into a receiver that drains into a sump.
