RO/DI unit needs to stay wet, correct?

Just wanted to confirm that the RO/DI units membrane and filters need to stay wet even when not in use. I bought a Kent RO/DI 30GPD unit awhile back from someone and they gave me the wrong information, along w/ incorrect age of the filters. When i first got it, I had the water tested at a LfS and they claimed it was at 0 several months ago... Had it tested by a local reefer last week and it was at 117!!! So I got all new filters/membrane.

Since I'm not going to be running it 24/7 I read that I can install valves on the input/output lines to keep/trap water in the unit -then when I run it, let the first 1-2 gallons go and it should be good...

Does this sound correct? Thx

Just the membrane need to remain wet, everything else, not so much. The important thing is to keep the membrane wet but also with "fresh" water, RandalB the RO wiz on RC suggest me to run my unit at least once a week to keep the water in the membrane from becoming stale or if you have a flush kit, flush it once in awhile. Wiz.

Yeah, I'm gonna be running it about once a week so it should be good in that dense. With my unit (Kent marine maxima) the filters and membrane are all connected so putting a valve on the input/output lines would keep water in the entire unit.
