RODI Help Needed

Hello all,

Been off the forums for awhile due to being gone for work but still in the game but with problems.........

I have a typhoon III RO/DI that I put all new filters and membrane into and that got my water to 0 tds like it should. Low and behold after 1 week my DI is exhausted and i am getting high TDS readings. So I decide to change the DI incase something with the resin was bad or so forth. Water goes back to 0 tds. 6 days later i have high TDS readings again and DI is exhausted.
I have checked that the water is not bypassing the membrane. I have anywhere from 300-400 TDS going into my unit and before DI I have 124 TDS. With the exhausted DI It is 148 TDS?? Which this number soesnt make sense but thats what my meter reads.
We are on well water and I know it is bad because our showers and toilets will be rust covered in a weeks time if we dont spray CLR or something weekly. We have a water softner and its serviced every 6 months and I always check there is salt (rust remover salt) at all times. the unit is hooked up after the softner (actually tapped into the hot water heaters input line - not hot side) so I know its getting softened water. I cant afford to replace DI every week for this hobby! I have even installed a inline prefilter from BRS and that didnt seem to help either. I have emailed BRS and they asked for my TDS numbers and I sent them.......only to not get a response for over 24 hrs now. I am kind of at my witts end here and this crap water is sure showing in my tank :(
I need to get this figured out and get good water again! Anyone have any similar situations and if so how did you cure it. Open to all comments and suggestions please. thanks!

Wes

Perhaps it has to do with the softened water? that's just more stuff the membrane and DI has to pull out to make pure water... also, are you sure the DI is the last stage? and what type of DI is it, from BRS, the blue stuff?

Yes it is from BRS. Everyone I have spoke to says its best to use softened water. BRS and AWI both sell a seperate canister for water softening prior to the RODI unit. And yes I am sure the DI is the last stage in the unit. Someone told me that well water is sometimes high in CO2 which can exhaust DI fast..........but didnt have a answer on how to fix the problem.

I know well water can really suck with RO/DI, I used to be on it... I had a problem before where I didn't pack the DI enough. BRS said to really pack it good. You should use nearly all of what comes in their refill packages. I think they put in a little extra to account for some "spillage". I have no experience with the softened vs un-softened water, that was just a shot in the dark...

I would be concerned that your TDS after the membrane is 124. If youre getting even 90% rejection rate and youre starting at 400 TDS then before the DI you should be down near 40 TDS.

I have no clue on the water pressure going in to be honest. The membrane was brand new when all this started. I can tell you that the clear water line tubing going to the unit now looks black thanks to the crap on the inside of the lines.

My water in McHenry is over 500tds, my unit still gets it below 10 after more than a year. I got two filters from home depot for prefilters, a sediment filter and a charcoal filter. They seem to get the nasties out before the membrane. I don't know about the co2 questions?
