Sick fish please help!

Once all fish are out you have a couple options. Let the tank go fallow for 3-6 ish months or take all rock all sand all everything and completely sterilize everything.
 
if there is bleeding from the gills, its valvet. I went through it last year. I waited 4 months to add a first fish after all died
 
petco has $1 gallon sale right now, you can get a 20 gallon for $20. Get a back up tank ready. Good luck we all have a few frustrating set backs
 
3-6 month is not necessary.
Fishless for 4-6 weeks is good enough.
10gal tank with a larger power filter will make a good quarantine tank.
 
i did not have to deal with brook* or velvet , i had to deal with ich . i removed all fish for 72 days . all fish were treated in a seperate qt and all meds removed for a couple weeks to monitor them before returning to the tank . i have had fish back in dt over a month and all is well so far. it sucks but i would highly suggest to qt all new fish entering the dt to avoid future issues . im not saying to treat every fish but at least monitor them for a bit and treat as needed . good luck and sorry you had to deal with this.
 
Agree sounds like brook. Either way brooks or velvet treatment is the same copper and let tank sit empty if were me id add a uv always speeded up the process for me and made me feel safer the water was clean

Why,? Even if you wait 3 month, when introducing new fish, 99% times you will get "something" in the water again. Especially when buying fish from LFS or buying WCfish
4-6 weeks is good for ice or brook, that's why it is suggested to quarantine new fish for 4-6 weeks.
 
I will also have to disagree with your statement that 99% of the time you will get something in the water. If qt is done properly, I think the 99% will be reversed, and that you will not get anything in the water afterwards.

How long is ur qt period? If you are talking about a 3-6 month qt cycle, then ok.
If not, then why you need 3 month Fishless to be sure nothing in the main tank, while only QT for 4-6 weeks.
