Hello! 125 reef with 3 Tangs < Hippo, Yellow,Powder>, Flame Angel, Maroon Clown, Mandarin Goby, Neon Dottyback. Need new skimmer. My plan was do 4' sump but I could fit only 3'. So with fuge in it i have only 10x9 foot print for skimmer. So I think only option is Octopus super savers skimmer wit pump under skimmer. You think XP1000 rated up to 125 will be enaugh for me? Foot print 9,5x7,5. I really wish you say yes < money wise and good foot print> Or should I go with XP2000 up to 180 gal bigger and a lot more money. I know you say the second one because you should always go with one size bigger then you need. Right?

people like those octopus' and they also like those super corallife ones.

the bigger is better is tricky, because you want to pull nutrients out, but not too many, cuase some of the trace elements get pulled as well. i very rarely see anyone putting monster skimmers on small tanks, unlike sumps or flow or something like that.

the water in your sump makes you above 125.

I recommend going with next size up.I had a skimmer rated 100 gal. on my 120 gal.reef and was not enough.I upgraded it to Vertex IN-180 rated 180 gal. and it does fantastic job.You will end up saving money now ,but in the near future will upgrade to bigger skimmer and at the end,end up spending more.

Do what i do, Use the sump for the fuge and use an external skimmer like a mrc or some other brand, Makes it nice i don't have to try and make room for plumbing and skimmer top to fit so i can clean it, I put mine in corner next to tank and run piping into it.

that's great advise, they are both exactly right, i like having the stuff in sump in case it decides to leak, you dont have to sit up nights worrying about it.
