Skimmer breakin

So I bought a Bubble Magnus HOB E3 skimmer....

Vendor suggested I put in bucket until it breaks in and quits overflowing. Having to turn off as bucket gets full of bubbles

Suggestions?

I ran my bubble magus curve in a bucket with water and vinegar for 24 hours to help break it in...it gets rid of the manufacturing crud. Another tip, when I used a HOB skimmer, I hung it so the pump and stuff was inside a 2.5 gallon tank. if it overflowed it would overflow into the small tank vs onto the floor...obviously 2.5 gallons isn't a lot to hold but it would buy a little time.
