Skimmer no skimmate

Been week or more since I've gotten much if any skimmate. Do you think it's cause of crummy skimmer or awesome water quality? :becky:
And here is pic of my wet/dry with skimmer in it.

I'm thinking a little more patience might be in order. Skimmers take a week sometimes to break in. Otherwise check your waterline. If it not in the sweet spot it won't skim efficiently. Make sure the air line is not blocked or leaking. GL

I don't think it has to be broken in. It's been in use since I set it up. I have some nice and nasty stuff come from it just lately nothing. I'll have to Phil apart and bee sure everything looks good I guess. I know it's getting air in and I see bubbles in there just little to no skimmate

These models have a sweet spot.. IMO time to upgrade

I'm pretty sure down the road this will become an issue..

is it still producing tons of bubbles? and to correct level? might need to tweak it, or airline might be clogged.

I do have a heavy stock.
3 small tang
3 cardinal
2 clown
3 chromis
2 Benny
2 goby
I prob should consider something else for skimming, Id have to pull out that skimmer and find a smaller one that would fit in that area
It had bubbled and made nice amount of skimmate just recently not much. It does still make bubbles but just not much going up into the cup.

It may need a good cleaning, but it may also be time for a new skimmer. I was recently having issues with my SWC-120 and took it apart for a thorough cleaning. The culprit was blockage in the silencer that was limiting the air intake into the impeller area. It fixed my problem. Dammmmn salt creep.

get a nice big skimmer, but you'll need a bigger sump too, or same size sump with different size chamber to fit the new skimmer.

I cleaned stuff out couple weeks ago but will have to pull out the bubbler next time and take that apart too. I would like to consider new skimmer but if you look at the pic I would need something that would fit in the area that the current on is in. See the cup? I can pull out that whole part and try getting something else to fit. Maybe the space size is like 4"x4" not sure though. Sump can't be change. It's not coming out of there. No possible way.

You won't be able find a decent skimmer which would fit in your sump. You need to upgrade.

Heard od issues with salinity dropping low for some reason or another causing skimmers not to skim. Otherwise probably airline blockage from saltcreep like every one else says. Or pump not working as good as before and have to adjust eaterline

Theres a few guys in the area we could get it upgraded yoive been meaning to take rock out anyways.... Trust me youll be happy you did it

IME, those sump/skimmers suck. You should be getting serious skimmate with your bioload. I dont' know if this is a reef anymore, I remember you saying in an old post that your coral weren't doing good and you may go fowlr. Well, I think it is fair to say that accumulated organics from lack of skimming may have been the reason your corals don't do well. Also, you should ditch the bioballs if you're going to run a reef. Over time they get gunked up and eventually turn into nitrate factories (instead of reducers.)

Here's my $0.02. If you absolutely positively can't change out your sump then ditch the bioballs and put a real skimmer in the mid-section. A good skimmer is more important than bioballs. You have 100 lbs of LR so perhaps that and a good skimmer can keep your nutrients in check. Next, get some chaeto in the return chamber and shine a cheap CFL (curly-q) bulb on them with a clip-on lamp. Problem solved :)

I'm thinking of maybe taking you up on that idea. Might have to start planning something out if I can't/don't make something work out with what I have under there now.

Well I do have a reef and most, except for a couple, corals are doing good happy and open nicely. The few that arent doing good i had gotten in rough shape from another tank that was bein broken down. The grow out contest frag is even doing pretty good. At the time that things weren't doing so good it was skimming but just recently it stopped skimming very good. And the reason they weren't doing good I found was because I used a brass firing inline with the return and was leaching copper which has been fix and all better :)
Bio balls are gone. Never used them. I have little and medium pieces of rock rubble sitting on that egg crate piece. But if I measure where the current skimmer is and if I can't fit one there I could possibly take out the rock and egg crate and see if I can fit and make work a skimmer in that area cause that should be plenty of room for one to sit in there just would have to make sure there is enough head room fr it and I could fit in into there.
Thanks :)
