skimmer overflow

I have a reef octo bh2000 H.O.B. skimmer. Except for adding a wellso and a Picasso clown 2 days ago I haven't added anything else for a while(live or chemical). Added rodi top off water with a tsp of baking soda yesterday and skimmer went nuts and overflowed on floor. Well today I tried plain old rodi water and same thing happened, any ideas?

I'd be interested as well. Had the same problem last week and lost about 10 gallons to the floor! I'm using a coralife HOB.

Im guessing your skimmer needs to be adjusted , watch when you have your rodi running , it raises the water level intank which would make skimmer overflow . Adding anything to the tank can also make skimmer act funny . Just a guess but sounds like what ive been battling with my skimmer

Check the volute where the air draw meets the water. Salt will build up in that opening causing skimmers to overflow. This is the first thing I check on my skimmer when it seems to lose its mark so to speak. It's an I-Tech 100 and I love it.

O.K. so cleaned the exhaust "port" and the intake thinking maybe some kind of back pressure, just having my hands in tank caused another overflow. So unplugged it and let everything settle down and swished a brush around in the body, plug back in and presto !! level back to normal. Added my top off water and no overflow!

Strange that having your hands in the tank seemed to cause an overflow. Usually the oils from your skin will cause the head to collapse if anything. The old ETSS downdraft skimmers were famous for this.

I have the same skimmer, and I actually had to put a valve on the volute while I was out of town so I wouldn't overflow. The skimmer hadn't run for a week so it started to really bubble for a bit. Things eventually calmed down again and I took off the valve, but I'm not sure exactly what made it freak out so much. Adjusting the few spots available didn't affect enough to stop the overflowk.
