soft start for pump

Is there something i can do or add to have my pump " soft start " back up when its turned off ?
i want to do a feed cycle where i program my pump to be off for a certain amount of time but when my pump kicks back on there is a HUGE push of water thru my lines because my pump is large and in the basement , i want to ramp it up slowly over a few minutes ?

You could probably only do this with a DC pump.

You have to have a method of reducing the voltage.

Thanks for the input guys , i appreciate it ! i was talking to my maintenance guy at my shop and he just informed me of the same thing >>> bummer
