Spartanman's cube

Since starting vodka/MB7 last week I've had an outbreak of diatoms on the sand bed. Is this to be expected? I've read mixed opinions on running gfo while carbon dosing. I've had it off. Should I start it back up to clear up the diatoms or let it runs it's course

I wouldn't, don't want to strip too much if PO4 is under control.

It's undetectable but it's there since algae is starting to pop up. But, I will continue with the vodka and wait for it to do its work.

Here's today's testing results:

Alk: 8.0
Ca: 420
NO3: 15-25
PO4: 0.03
pH: 8.38
Temp: 78.0

Things are looking well. It looks like the struggling pieces have come to a halt in tissue loss. It looks like some of the pieces are even beginning to recover a bit, although hard to tell definitively yet. All recently acquired pieces continue to do well.

I've been trying to get a video of my clowns posted, but my Tapatalk app force closes everytime I try to attach the video. Regardless, my clowns have been cleaning a section of the rock next to the anemone for months now. I've never had a spawning pair before, but it sure looks a lot like they are prepping for eggs. I keep checking but nothing yet. This winter will be 3 years that I've had them.

Thanks! Looks like the chemipure cleaned up your cyano issues. I was at AP this past weekend and they had probably 6-8 smaller one spot fox faces. Just a heads up in case you were thinking of replacing the one you lost.

In April when we move. I've got 95% of all the equipment. I just need a dosing system (GHL), a 2nd OR-T247, another EB8, an AFS, and 2 more blue plus bulbs. That and some elbow grease finishing up the stand, canopy, wall mounted electrical cabinet, and QT stand

Got a 15 gallon water change done last night, changed out the filter socks, and cleaned up the tanks a bit. I'll test parameters when I get home.

Things appear to be on the mend. Old pieces seem to have stabilized and new pieces continue to encrust. I got the dslr charged yesterday so hopefully I can find some time to take some pictures.

Does anyone use the marine pure ceramic blocks? I've been thinking about adding one to my system to prep for the upgrade in April. I plan to have the upgraded tank running for about a month in the new place prior to moving everything over. That should be enough time to go through the cycle, but I thought it may be a good idea to use one of these block as a seed for bacteria and microbes.

What would you guys say to removing the sand from my fuge and just running the block and chaeto?

Tank continues to do well, tested my parameters tonight:

Alk: 8.15
Ca: 410
NO3: 15
PO4: 0.01
pH: 8.40
Temp: 79.3

I've had so diatoms popping up on the sand. Hopefully that'll go away as I continue with the dosing and drive the nutrient levels down.
